“We’re waiting for clarity and if it’s more restrictive and we can only have visitors from Tofino and Ucluelet, because even Port Alberni is an hour-and-a-half drive, we will have to close down for the five weeks,” said Tin Wis executive manager, Stewart Instance.
Solicitor General Mike Farnworth clarified on Tuesday that police could be asked to put up periodic roadblocks similar to the anti-drunk driving campaign over Christmas at “places like B.C. Ferries or on Highway 1 leaving the Lower Mainland,” his office said in a news release. Farnworth also said the new orders will not “unfairly impact racialized communities” and more details will be released this week.
“That’s my hope and expectation,” said Instance, who said revenue was down 50 per cent last year and staff has been cut to 38 from 100 employees.
