A federal court in Boston has ruled that warrantless U.S. government searches of the phones and laptops of international travellers at airports and other U.S. ports of entry violate the Fourth Amendment.

Tuesday's ruling in U.S. District Court came in a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union and the Electronic Frontier Foundation on behalf of 11 travellers whose smartphones and laptops were searched without individualized suspicion at U.S. ports of entry.

Documents filed as part of the lawsuit claim the scope of the warrantless searches has expanded to assist in enforcement of tax, bankruptcy, environmental and consumer protection laws, gathering intelligence and advancing criminal investigations. Customs and Border Protection said in a statement that while it does not comment on matters in litigation, in Fiscal Year 2019, the department processed more than 414 million travellers at U.S. ports of entry. During that same period of time, it conducted 40,913 border searches of electronic devices, representing less than .01 per cent of arriving international travellers.

Rossman said two of the plaintiffs -- Ghassan and Nadia Alasaad -- were stopped as they tried to re-enter the U.S. after a visit to Canada. Both are U.S. citizens and live in Massachusetts.

Australia's highest court will hear Cardinal Pell's appealAustralia's highest court agreed Wednesday to hear an appeal from the most senior Catholic to be found guilty of sexually abusing children, giving Cardinal George Pell his last chance at getting his convictions overturned. In the end, his 'final' appeal will have a 'judge' he should know well. One who seldom shows mercy for those who don't deserve it. Speaking of Australia, there are constant rallies there to FreeJulianAssange from the corrupt and quite illegal 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 extradition to try to silence him and put him away for 200 years for exposing the truth about Iraq war crimes. I wish our msm would report on that.

U.S. Supreme Court will not shield gun maker from Sandy Hook lawsuitSupreme Court rejected Remington Arms Co’s bid to escape a lawsuit by families of victims aiming to hold the gun maker liable for its marketing of the assault-style rifle A good news for America I think. A wake up call for the bearded wrapped in the flag gun strockers. It's an insane precedent if set, that any manufacturer is at all culpable for things done with malicious intent with their goods. Especially considering how many weapons the US gov't themselves pays to make.
