With 365 M people in US, equally distributed between ages 0 an 100, every day there should be 10K deaths per day. In ten days it will exceed WWI. Think, how slight calculation error, or misattribution of a death cause, can skew statistics.

The average coronavirus victim had a remaining life expectancy of less than five years. The average first world war victim had a remaining life expectancy of more than 50 years. One is obviously much worse than the other.
