Convicted youth killer wants adult sentence so she can get programming

A woman who helped beat Patrick Dong with a bat before stabbing him six times and leaving him in a ditch outside Saskatoon wants to be sentenced as an adult.

The publication ban on her identity — a provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act — can be lifted once she is sentenced. The maximum youth sentence for manslaughter is three years, while the sentencing range for adults is between four and 12 years. This was a prolonged and brutal “near murder” and her culpability is at the “highest level,” Pilon added.

The reports also state that the woman is still in a gang and has no desire to leave. Her pro-criminal behaviour and high risk to violently reoffend are a public safety concern, the Crown argued.

I can’t believe how much and fast humans are destroying the planet. It’s sad.

Killer of Calgary mother, daughter gets no parole for 50 yearsA man convicted of killing a Calgary mother and her young daughter will have to wait 50 years before he has a chance at parole. Consecutive? Wow! For once, the Canadian legal system does not give a volume discount for murder - well done, Justice Beth Hughes! Seems harsh. I’d revisit this decision and show some mercy.
