The first debate for the Conservative leadership race will take place Wednesday evening in French, with the English debate to follow on Thursday.

OTTAWA -- Conservative prime minister Stephen Harper was particular about beginning nearly all of his remarks in French.

The original date of June 27 to pick a new leader has now been pushed to sometime after Aug. 21 -- the deadline for party members to have their ballots sent to headquarters for counting. None come without hiccups. It was recently revealed that O'Toole was using an American call centre to make calls for his campaign, despite a pledge to stand up for Canadian workers.

The questions were all common bread-and-butter themes: the carbon tax, media bailouts, security at the border, standard fare for most of the candidates as they seek to woo the grassroots. While in the early days her support was emanating largely from social conservatives -- she is clear on her anti-abortion position, for example -- comments to her social media pages illustrate a change underway.

ABSOLUTELY disgusting that CBCNews or GlobalNational are not televising these? DFriesenGlobal RosieBarton LisaLaFlammeCTV three clowns that ‘moderated’ the JOKES they called debates prior to the last election!!

Couldn’t care less!

Red meat for the left, the media will attack on racism. The way each of these candidates answers this question will tell if theirs a candidate race or mockery. Those with a back bone will go against Trudeau, the left and BLM, but will face the wrath of the Left-Wing media.

I can't believe that this is a priority for them at this time. Sure, I get the desperate need to replace ScheerStupidity but the options on offer aren't better, and really, supporting Canada & Canadians through the pandemic should be more important than crowing a new puppet.

Erin O'Toole and Peter MacKay are recycled candidates Leslyn Lewis is unproven Derick Sloan is a loose cannon None are worthy of the Leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada Andrew Scheer is better than these candidates Pierre Poilievre isn't interested in the job BAD

My vote is for LeslynLewis smart intelligent fresh face on Canadian political scene. She truly deserves the backing of the “Big blue machine” But of course conservatives are sheep and will vote for a tired stale old has-been with tons of political baggage.

And WTF is it not being televised?

Non-mortgage debt falls for first time in more than a decade in Q1, Equifax saysCredit rating agency Equifax Canada says consumer average non-mortgage debt dropped for the first time in more than a decade in the first quarter as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Interesting. I guess people have no place to spend money. Good for them. But this might not be good news for stores. A lot less spending these days. Hopefully that trend continues. Sure would be nice to realign the economy to stop depending on debt-based consumer spending. no kidding....everything was fucking CLOSED. There was no place for people to max out their credit cards.

Wearing a mask is a scientifically accepted, simple, and easy thing we all can do for the safety of others and the betterment of public health. Those who refuse to wear them are uninformed, selfish babies. Frightening: State run media tells us what to do. CBC
