The road at Marches Point in Cape St. George has reopened, as cleanup on the province’s west coast continued after significant damage caused by heavy rainfall Friday.
“This cuts off half the town from emergency services. Please rest assured that you are not isolated,” the town’s ambulance service posted, urging residents to contact 911 in case of emergency. If the Cape St. George Ambulance Service is unable to respond, we will do everything we can to ensure that an ambulance will be dispatched to you.”
“Everything in our power will be done to ensure there is no interruption to our residents’ access to emergency services.”The province’s Department of Public Safety, Transportation and Infrastructure said Saturday engineers and contractors were on site to assess the damage and make repairs. The work is expected to continue on Monday.
Cape St. George Mayor Stella Cornect is asking any residents of the town who sustained property damage and do not have insurance coverage to contact her with photos as soon as possible, so she can forward the information to the province.
