City looks to increase shopping bag fees, reduce single-use items yyc yyccc

. By the end of this year, companies will be banned from importing or making plastic bags, takeout containers and four other plastic categories.

“The focus is on reducing waste from single-use items independent of composition — not simply replacing single-use plastic items with single-use items made from other materials ,” the report from city administration says. Robert Tremblay with the Calgary Climate Hub holds a pocket-sized reusable shopping bag in Quarry Park on Monday, September 26, 2022.The report by city administration says that promoting reusable products, reducing the use of single-use products of any material and ensuring the lowest impact end-of-life scenario will lower Calgary’s environmental footprint.

If the strategy is approved, the city’s waste and recycling services will work with the engagement team and Business Improvement Areas to better understand how the city can support the transition and address concerns.Article content

I have been using reusable bags for almost 30 years! It's not really a hardship. Can we focus on more important things that are going on!?

Next thing you know there's going to be a tax on condoms

Will that include clamshell containers?

Some ideas appear to be good until some actual science is involved….

I believe the seriousness of this when Pampers are banned. Until then I will do my part and bring my reusable bag.

Of course they are because yyccc is comprised of the biggest bunch of self important buffoons the city has ever seen. Cant fix the stuff they are responsible for so they stick their collective noses in everything else. Useless.

“The strategy would also implement a “by request” requirement for all foodware items like straws, stir sticks, utensils “ There is never a shortage of people obsessed with micromanaging the lives of others. yyc yyccc

Waiting for Horizon to slam this one..... Hmmm, offering more services for lower fees...doesn't sound too fiscally responsible to me. Where are you going to cut elsewhere, or how much will you be increasing my taxes? We need journalists to do their job in ottcity. Improving online registration system already underway!
