Chris Selley: This budget shows Ontario's conservative fiscal hawks are nearly all extinct via nationalpost

He’s probably right. As an artifact of its time — nearing the end of a nightmarish two-year pandemic, and heading straight into an election campaign — this budget makes perfect sense.

Inflation is also something no party’s budget could ignore. So Ontarians are getting a significant break on the gas tax. Premier Doug Ford’s government has axed car-registration fees altogether, is eliminating tolls on two highways and promising fare harmonization between public transit networks in the GTA. Then there’s the $13.2 deal with the feds promising $10-a-day child care.

To be clear: There isn’t much that’s significant in this budget that hadn’t already been announced as part of the government’s pre-election announcement frenzy, if not before. On the biggest-ticket items — highways, transit projects, health infrastructure — the main difference is just that a few things got considerably more expensive since last report. “It’s a big budget that’s got a whole lot of things to move forward,” Bethlenfalvy told reporters. Amusingly vague, but true.

James Gunn defends Chris Pratt against call to replace him in 'Guardians of the Galaxy''Guardians of the Galaxy' director James Gunn is defending Chris Pratt in the face of social media chatter that he should be replaced as the star of the franchise. Pratt sucks. You don't replace Chris Pratt, christ... shit, he's perfect for this role. Gunn's mistake was responding to someone with a bio like this. I lost count of the red flags. Don't give the freaks and lunatics digital oxygen. It just emboldens them.

Randall Denley: With 2022 budget, Ontario PCs aim to be the Pragmatic Conservative PartyThe Ford government is not pre\u002Doccupied with traditional conservative concerns like eliminating the deficit or cutting taxes. Spending, sorry, investing is now… This is not a budget, as it won’t be debated. It’s the 2022 version of the con’s BUCK A BEER campaign platform. DOFO and his band of miscreant cronies aren’t gonna pull the wool over Ontario’s eyes this time. Tell me again how conservatives are better at budgeting. Fiscal 17-18 (liberal): $3.67 Billion deficit Fiscal 18-19 (conservative): $7.44 Billion deficit Fiscal 22-23 (conservative): $19.85 Billion deficit
