But Justin Trudeau actually seems proud of the civil rights violations his father authorized

Indeed, the film has precipitated a misty-eyed nostalgia among some in the hard-nationalist camp that’s fundamentally weird and has very little time to remember the FLQ’s victims.

Still, it’s not just the Bloc who think the feds should apologize. Every party in Quebec’s National Assembly agrees, though they disagree on whether other governments should apologize as well. After all, Pierre Trudeau invoked the War Measures Act at the request of Montreal mayor Jean Drapeau and Quebec’s Liberal premier Robert Bourassa. Article content continued

Just because Bourassa and Drapeau asked the prime minister to use “a cannon to kill a fly,” as Liberal cabinet minister Jean Marchand later put it, doesn’t mean the prime minister had to agree. Under the powers Trudeau granted, police conducted some 3,000 searches and rounded up nearly 500 people without warrants; they could be held without charge, and some were, for three weeks. Only 62 were ever prosecuted.

I think the National Post needs to apologize for all it has done over the years. Then disband.

No, it’s not.

What was the course of action Pierre ought to have taken 50 years ago and was any serious person advocating for that course of action at the time?

You don’t apologize to miscreants who murder, kidnap and attemp violent overthrow of legitimate government.

and where were you Chris Shelly when the bombs were exploding?

Nonsense. Before you condemn Trudeau for (necessarily) invoking the War Measures Act in interests of national security, familiarize yourself with de-classified information regarding terrorism in Canada, and Russia stoking terrorism in Quebec by way of the Cuban Embassy.

Here we go again... terrorists deserving an apology

No apology!

Where were you 50 years ago?

Can’t agree with you, this was a crisis the likes of which Canada had never seen. As difficult a decision as it was PMPT made the right decision. Bombing of the Stock Exchange, the underground, elected officials, being murdered, and their bodies dismembered.

The only right thing he ever did!

Laughable.

Never apologize for protecting our way of life.

An asshole, why should we, they bombed us and killed people and threaten to kill others also. They got the lowest sentence ever.

maikan5 Deserved from the Quebec government who requested Fed assistance

The only thing Trudeau Sr got right...

Nope.

National Post is off the rails....

No he did what he had to do moooovev on

No the apology is not deserved. Terrorists don’t get apologies and the policies used to curb terror doesn’t get apologies.

The war measures act was changed because it was deemed to harsh.... that’s the only apology they’ll get....

'I do not think the purpose of a government is to right the past. It cannot rewrite history. It is our purpose to be just in our time.' - Pierre Trudeau

Shouldn't that start with yhe province and city that requested it?

I disagree. As much as I am far from liberal i remember that time well. I wish Justin had have the balls his old man had

No, never, terrorism and mayhem in any name should be forever condemned. And let's face it, the FLQ was a band of thugs and should be forever remembered as such.

I don’t think so!
