SMCF sends kids to camp, puts them in sports and helps defray post-sec costs

The Sudbury Manitoulin Children’s Foundation is hoping people throw some donations its way to help marginalized kids on Giving Tuesday, which is on Nov. 29.

The charity has launched a campaign to help raise funds to empty its waiting list and move more youth into programming for the coming year.Reaching this goal will go directly into helping marginalized children from the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin attend camp, sports or leisure activities, or helping eligible wards attend post-secondary education.

The foundation has three programs, the Send-A-Kid-To-Camp, PLAY, and Bursary Programs, each aimed at helping create positive experiences for at risk youth. Youth are referred to the programming through referral agencies such as the Children’s Aid Society. Sudbury Manitoulin Children’s Foundation’s programming is important to the community as it reaches those who may not have the funds or the opportunities to attend camps, recreational programs or education.

Research proves that participation in outdoor activities, organized sports, and post-secondary education enrich children’s lives and break negative cycles of abuse, neglect, and poverty, said a press release.
