An update is coming this morning on the wildfires in Central Newfoundland, which have prompted a state of emergency in the region.

Federal Emergency Preparedness Minister, Bill Blair, announced on Twitter Saturday night that a request for assistance by the provincial government was approved. Canadian Forces will be coming to the province in aid of affected areas. He says this is the largest fire seen in the province since 1961. For the last few weeks, there have been two main fires crews have been fighting, one at Paradise Lake and the other at the Bay D’Espoir Highway. However, Forestry Minister Derrick Bragg says those conditions are changing.

My heart is with everyone in central today. Scary times.

Up to the 1980s there were always controlled burns of under growth in various areas and to limit forest fire risks....somehow the country fails to understand preventable measures these days....right across canada.

The premier has been working hard at playing golf with the boys from TradesNL all week trying to figure out how to stop them big fires lol.

RDugganVOCM Thinking of everyone in Central. Very stressful indeed.
