The man had been hiking on a trail in Bass Lake, Calif.,when he walked across Willow Creek near Angel Falls. The Madera County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that the man misjudged the “swiftness of the water” and was swept into the whirlpool., off-duty officer Brent Donley can be seen using a rope and large branch to pull the man to safety with the help of other hikers in the area.
Donley is a California Highway Patrol officer who had been hiking in the area with his wife when he came across the man in danger. He’s also trained in search and rescue.
Spring run off, creeks can be deadly, common sense is needed. Nature is unforgiving, lucky guy.
