Ostfeld, who was not involved in treating the patient, said that although it is hard to prove the attack was evidence of causation and not correlation, he was familiar with other cases connecting heart attacks and temporary heart palpitations to energy drinks. “It is hard to argue that are healthy,” he said at the time, adding more research was needed to determine if energy drinks make blood more likely to clot.
