Lesley Carter and her son Max Smith in Cliffs of Moher, Ireland. CONTRIBUTEDSYDNEY, N.S. — Lesley Carter, who grew up in Sydney Mines, has built a career out of travelling the world and she’s instilled that globetrotting spirit and ingenuity in her two children.

Lesley Carter, who grew up in Sydney MInes, and her children, Athena Carter and Max Smith in December on a ski trip at Snowmass, Colo. CONTRIBUTEDCarter got her education degree and was teaching in New Brunswick when a job offer came up for her then-husband to relocate to California, which had been a dream place to live for her.

“It was insane. Companies like Red Bull reached out to me and shared a bunch of my stuff. They said, ‘We love that you're just like the girl next door that’s kind of doing these insane things,'” she said. Carter said Smith sold his video gaming company and they relocated to Texas for the warm weather and the quality of the education system there.

“It’s awesome… Also, I can tell you there’s a lot of hard work that has gone into it,” said Samways, who has gone on several of the trips with Carter.“It’s a job as much as she loves what she is doing,” Samways said.
