The police service on Monday officially opened a Charlotte Street community office that aims to address the needs of downtown Sydney business owners looking for help to deter spates of vandalism, shoplifting and an increase in graffiti.Cape Breton police to add extra resource to patrol downtown Sydney core
The office, Fraser said, will be open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, “and if we can get the staff to go longer, we will do that,” he added. “Because of the drive with the businesspeople, working with the police and the downtown business watch, that’s why this has all come about,” said Fraser, who represents the police service in that program.

That’s in contrast to a year ago, when Ahmad and his brother, Athar, told the Cape Breton Post at that time they were seeing an increase in people walking into their establishment and making threats to their customers and leaving their washrooms messy, and sometimes vandalizing or stealing items from those facilities.
