The Flames are in a battle for a playoff spot. Tied on points with the Winnipeg Jets for the second wild card spot in the western conference, Calgary needs a win. They beat Winnipeg on Wednesday but the Jets hold a game in hand. Calgary has two games to go after Saturday, while the Jets, who host Nashville Saturday night, will still have three more games before the season’s over.
“We gotta get a forechecking game. Calgary is going to be coming in, they’re gonna dump the puck in, like last time, and they’re gonna be on top of us. So we got to counteract that. And that means we have to have a good forecheck. We have to have good possession time, which for the last couple months, we were one of the better teams possession time, but we’ve lost that,” Canucks coach Rick Tocchet said of what he expects a highly motivated Flames squad to bring to the table Saturday evening.
