“Our study is the first to assess the possible benefits of medical cannabis for cancer-related pain in oncology patients; gathering information from the start of treatment, and with repeated follow-ups for an extended period of time, to get a thorough analysis of its effectiveness,” study author David Meiri, assistant professor at the Technion Israel Institute of Technology, notes onMeiri added that traditional treatment options, such as opioid analgesics, can be hazardous for some patients.

To better understand what impact cannabis had on the patients, researchers compiled data on pain measures, analgesics consumption, cancer symptom burden, sexual problems and side effects several times over a six-month period.Article content While pain and other cancer-related symptoms improved, the use of opioids and other pain analgesics was reduced.
