Claude Julien’s explanation for his decision to scratch Artturi Lehkonen was perfectly valid, but it was surprising nonetheless. EricEngels explains ⤵️

Brendan Gallagher, who was two games removed from suffering a leg injury that hampered him in a 4-3 loss to the Dallas Stars last Saturday and kept him out of a 4-3 loss to the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday, tied this game at 2-2 in the second period by willing his way through a maze of bodies and managing to push the puck past goaltender Braden Holtby while three Capitals players tried but failed to tie him up..

“I’m looking for guys who are ready to go through the trenches to win a hockey game,” Julien said earlier on Thursday. “That’s what we’re looking for as an organization. We want guys that are willing to push through and do those kind of things.

Lehkonen wasn’t exactly trending towards being held out of action after playing 16:52 in Detroit on Tuesday and 17:32 against Dallas on Saturday.Get the best of our NHL coverage and exclusives delivered directly to your inbox! After finding out Lehkonen was scratched, we reached out to a Western Conference executive to see if he had been traded, with the NHL’s deadline being four days away.“There’s 30 teams that would take him at the right price,” the executive texted. “We aren’t getting him.

EricEngels Can we have an exchange of thoughts regarding the previous 50 games? Cuz right now, it's all moot.

EricEngels Lehkonen will never cause a loss but he will never help you win

EricEngels I don't think it as valid at all. Kovalchuk has done nothing for 6 games. Julien makes head scratching decisions at times. Bench a scorer for not scoring not a defensive specialist.

EricEngels This was more of a massage to the whole team, not just Lehkonen. Look at how they responded. But at the same time the team lost a little respect for him. Look at the post game reaction from some of the players...

EricEngels Last 20 games Cousins 9 pts with pp time Weal 8 pts with pp time Domi 6 pts with pp time Lehkonen 5 pts no pp time, defensive responsibilities

EricEngels ... you posted this yesterday...

EricEngels Josh Anderson to MTL and Arturri Lehkonen to CBJ makes all kinds of sense to me. And no, not necessarily ond for one.

EricEngels SirenSideUp looks like my thinking was in line with Eric's, Lehky scratched to show off other players! Fingers crossed...

From here, Eric Engels sets the table for the Canadiens, who should continue to be sellers up until Feb. 24. CanadiensMTL EricEngels Man, this is bad...Habs should absolutely trade Petry, Tatar and Domi...take this team down to the screws and finish bottom 3 next year...you’d have a shot at rebounding pretty quick in 2022 w some of the young guys coming. CanadiensMTL EricEngels Montreal going for Anderson is a good move, I'd try for Korpisalo as well, he's the kind of goalie they need to play with CP. I suspect CLB will want Lehkonen to be in the return he seems like their kind of player. Unless CLB plans to keep both Goalies next season(both are RFA's) CanadiensMTL EricEngels Sign Jeff Petry? No!! you move him! We need to get worse to get better!!!!

Montreal Canadiens D Xavier Ouellet (upper-body) will not return Thursday - TSN.caMontreal Canadiens defenceman Xavier Ouellet will not return to Thursday’s game against the Washington Capitals after leaving in the first period with an upper-body injury, the team announced. Damn AndrewYang universal basic income is already hitting the sports world 😔🧢 It’s bad enough that we let the NHL get away with vague, completely useless, meaningless terms like Upper Body Injury. Do we really have to start calling them UBIs? 🤦‍♂️
