This was completely off the radar, an utter shock, and a dismaying choice.
Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin, moments after stunning the hockey world by selecting Mailloux, said this statement was the impetus to trust Mailloux is worth giving a second chance to. Mailloux’s remorsefulness for his actions -- outside of how it might have affected his reputation and his career -- is in considerable doubt. Especially given that the victim of his actions doesn’t believe he’s remorseful at all., the young woman said all she had hoped for from Mailloux was a sincere apology but instead received a three-sentence text that smacked of insincerity.
“Even if you said so, you’re eligible to be drafted,” Bergevin said. “So, that was clear with the league.”
EricEngels “dismaying” 😂😂. I’m going to go and lie down and see how I can recover from this.
EricEngels It’s only a shock if you haven’t paid attention to Marc Bergevin’s actions in the past.
EricEngels Very disappointed in this bad take by EricEngels, pandering to the Twitter mob. Not cool. The call by CanadiensMTL took courgage, and is how real change happens. Real change doesn’t happen by writing people off and ostracizing them. It happens by helping and educating.
EricEngels I dunno. Was there another big, French, right handed defenseman with a good shot available who was projected to go in the first round or two? Because that's what they need the most.
EricEngels Another Patrick Kaine
EricEngels Man you are SOoverly politically correct amd judgmental. I’d love to see your rap sheet at 17. But then there were no smartphones back the ….
EricEngels Kid proves he's mature in the coming years and scores 25 goals in the first year, you'll forget about this drama
EricEngels Actually the only ones in Dismay is Ignorant Liberal Broadcasters Employees of Rogers inc What more did you want from a Child the fact he us 18 and this happened prior to Means YOU SHOULDN'T EVEN HAVE ANY KNOWLEDGE OF THE INCIDENT AS BOTH PARTIES ARE MINORS
EricEngels Disgusting FireBergevin HabsIO
EricEngels
EricEngels It seems like berg is trying to ruin the team in his last year of his contract…
EricEngels So EricEngels how long should the penance be. A year maybe 5 or never be employed again. He’s 17 and when the issue happened was 16. What he did was disgusting and he’s faced the courts and his peers. He deserves to try and make amends
EricEngels it says something when this is the stupidest move of the day when the seth jones trade happened
EricEngels I’d been so excited about this offseason for the Habs. Now that’s gone. They’ve tarnished a magical Cup run, ruined their summer roster assembly, and flushed their own dignity with this pick.
EricEngels This dude covered up the sexual assault of one of his players for a decade, what is surprising?
EricEngels I’m disappointment in the media. Being so PC about this. I mean really. Kid made a mistake. We saw worst in the league and still play. He apaologized and is moving forward. Kid can’t be shamed his whole life and denied an employment in the league.
EricEngels 😂 😂 😂
EricEngels Bergevin doesn't give a f lol. He's doing all he could to win, regardless if it's controversial
EricEngels Bold move that no other team in Canada or probably the NHL would have made. Quebec is a different place in NA, they do what they want, not what's popular. On balance, I think this is a good move for The Canadiens, Mailloux and the idea of not throwing people away...
EricEngels This kid is infamous, at least now and when the London fall season reboots. He is kryptonite, and his parents are destroyed as well. He will better repent with some support/endorsement.
EricEngels You are too quick to judge. Bergie was in-over-his-head justifying the decision (Hopefully, he can better justify it in the Mother tongue). Mailloux did what he was supposed to do, by withdrawing.
EricEngels So if he was picked by Buffalo 2 spots after was ok ?
EricEngels Let’s see if Logan is true to his word and signs the ELC or not
EricEngels The kid asked not to be picked, so when the Habs offer you your entry level contract, don't sign it and you might get a LITTLE bit of respect back
EricEngels Shameful CanadiensMTL
EricEngels You say you wanna give the women privacy.... yet.. EVERY HEADLINE IS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. People watched the draft and they know. He knows. She knows. Way to blow it up on social media to get it attention to those who had no clue. Terrible pick by berg.
EricEngels Where was he ranked prior to his misdeeds?
EricEngels Good for Bergevin. Kid made a stupid mistake and the Youth Justice system held him accountable. In a civil society once a criminal has served their sentence they shouldn’t be stigmatized and punished again.
EricEngels What about matthews?
EricEngels So many snowflakes on this thread 😂😂😂
EricEngels Morality vs Victory - without a guarantee of it, they chose the latter.
EricEngels You got this one wrong, Eric. Hope you’ve never made a mistake in your life.
EricEngels Now all they need to do is sign Tony D. What an awful move by Berg
EricEngels I think it speaks to Bergevin’s ego. He doesn’t give a damn about the fans or the city. He doesn’t care what anyone thinks - he’s Marc Bergevin.
EricEngels The reactions to this pick are nuts. Just absolutely insane.
EricEngels I will sign a petition to have MB removed from the organization. That was a disgraceful choice and I have lost respect for him and the organization.
EricEngels Marc Bergevin has framed this as though the player is the victim not the young woman and he should resign. The NHL response could have been better, but they have to guard against being seen as blacklisting or they can be sued
EricEngels A shocking pick from what is supposed to be a model franchise, I am no habs fan, but always respected the CanadiensMTL but as father of girls I lost a lot of respect for the franchise today. I suspect a lot their alumni are not pleased.
EricEngels At what point does the 'morality bleeding' stop? You and others in the media of high moral standards no less are judge jury and executioner it appears. The kid was charged, fined and was sent to counciling. He has apologized. What more do you want?
EricEngels If this is football, every fan of the their team would be saying the same thing as bergy. Sad but true. Football only cares about winning. How many of you Stone throwers have a middle name Jesus christ? This kid messed up. Let's see if he can rehabilitate
EricEngels Make all the excuses you want for this guy fact is he violated a woman sexually!!! If you can't see what is wrong with that then u r part of societies problem. The Habs organization and its fans should be horrified
EricEngels Definitely a lapse in judgement but the whole scouting team must have been in on this, not just MB. I am very disturbed by this selection.
EricEngels He took ownership. Hopefully he used his experience to prevent others from doing the same.
EricEngels Free Julian Assange!!!
EricEngels imagine if social media was around when Messier was driving his pink Porsche around the streets of Edmonton in the mid 80's.
EricEngels who f*cking cares🙄🙄. Imagine all the shit the went on for decades when social media didn't exist and the things ppl weren't held accountable for. He made a mistake, he took responsibility. he didn't commit genocide or mass murder. this world is hopeless. Red giant now please.
EricEngels Logan didn’t even apologize to the woman. He asked teams not to draft him. out of all teams Montreal still chose too. Even if other teams were thinking about drafting him in the second round. Does not make it acceptable.
EricEngels ritmat12 VIP subscriptions worth investing in thank me later don't waste time on local tipsters who are waiting for major leagues to resume
EricEngels Hmmm, it's alleged MB tried to acquire Tony DeAngelo after the NYR dumped him. Seem to recall Yzerman said similar things about helping a young man become a better person when he drafted DeAngelo. That didn't work out too well for him nor the Lightning.
EricEngels Disgusting
EricEngels Good Montreal!! Young man has paid in more ways than a hefty fine for his mistake & is remorseful. We all make regrettable mistakes in life. A good player who shows character & maturity. Wait until he sees the beautiful women of Montreal. Don't take photos without consent.
EricEngels This was a calculated play between a team and agency based in Montreal… connect the dots.
EricEngels
EricEngels Mailloux was criminally charged for a criminal act. Anyone calling for this kid’s head simply proves why the masses should not be in charge of justice. Leave justice to the courts. To those who think he shouldn’t ever see the ice; remember, live by the sword, die by the sword.
EricEngels What Mailloux did was shameful. But it's not comparable to literal murder, rape, assault, gun violence etc...of many NFL and NBA athletes, who play without similar condemnation.
EricEngels I LIKE THAT
EricEngels Great pick!
EricEngels
EricEngels
EricEngels You wonder why the team doesn't win a Cup! The slim starts at the top!!
EricEngels ritmat12 VIP subscriptions worth investing in thank me later don't waste time on local tipsters who are waiting for major leagues to resume
EricEngels I’ve lost any respect I ever had done Bergevin and the team executives who selected him.
EricEngels They should have passed on him shame on the Habs for selecting him
EricEngels Selecting him after knowing what he did. And after his statement is just so wrong. Shame on the habs organization.
