Canadian Rangers were expected to arrive in Neskantaga First Nation on Friday to help the remote community in northern Ontario as it grapples with a water crisis.

Much of the First Nation was evacuated earlier in the month after high levels of hydrocarbons -- chemical compounds found in crude oil and coal -- were discovered in the water supply, forcing officials to turn off the pipes.

"We're diligently working towards finding immediate and long-term solutions to this health emergency, and we will not stop until Neskantaga has access to clean, safe and reliable drinking water."Neskantaga has Canada's longest-standing on-reserve boil-water advisory, in place for 25 years.

Canada can send water purification systems to other countries. Why can't we send them to the first nation communities?

This is unacceptable! We are not a third world country and they deserve better! Get them clean fresh water!

It’s really well past time to park the symbolism and deliver fresh water to this community. Deliver....

just get them some water. You send billions overseas but no water for First Nations? Canada has more fresh water than any other country.

How is this even possible? Access to clean drinking water shouldn't take 25 years.

Did this ever happen during the Harper government? cdnpoli

How do you deploy people who are not a cohesive unit & have no actual equipment? This is starting to sound like a Trudeau photo op in the making...

Wouldn’t it have just been cheaper and more effective to GIVE THEM CLEAN WATER?

Where is the dart team. Send them now. Right now!!!!!!!
