BERLIN — Canada's Rylan Wiens earned a silver medal in the men's 10-metre platform event at a World Cup diving competition Saturday. Wiens, 22, captured his first-ever individual World Cup medal.

BERLIN — Canada's Rylan Wiens earned a silver medal in the men's 10-metre platform event at a World Cup diving competition Saturday."I came here to win a medal, and that’s exactly what I did," he said."I’m very excited!”

Wiens finished with 494.50 points. China's Junjie Lian of China was first with 542.55 while Australian Cassiel Rousseau was third with 476.90 points. “When I realized I had a chance to get on to the podium, I was really nervous," Wiens said."I stayed nervous until my final dive, where I was able to relax a bit when I saw the scoreboard.Canadians Kate Miller and Caeli McKay were second in the women’s 10-metre synchronized event. It was their second silver of the season.

“It’s always great to win a medal but I think we’re both a bit disappointed in our performance," said McKay."It wasn’t as consistent or as precise as we would have liked.This report by The Canadian Press was first published March 23, 2024.
