Cruise ship industry decline expected to cause pain across Canada

John Campbell, owner of the Sou'Wester Restaurant and Gift Shop in Peggy's Cove, N.S. stands near the lighthouse on Friday, May 15, 2020. TORONTO -- Picturesque Peggy's Cove, N.S., is normally a great place to run a business but restaurant owner John Campbell hopes he can survive the cancellation of cruise ships this season because of COVID-19.

Revenue is expected to be cut by at least half this year after four cruise lines -- Holland America, Princess Cruises, Seabourn Cruises and Carnival Cruises -- cancelled calls to Canada and Alaska this season. In addition, the federal government has imposed a ban on cruises through at least July 1 that will reduce the number of visitors.

Before COVID-19, the number of passengers to Atlantic Canada was forecasted to grow 14 per cent to about one million in 2020. A spokeswoman for Transport Minister Marc Garneau declined to say if the July 1 ban will be extended. But he expects to lose one-third of his revenue if no ships arrive in eastern ports at all this year.

But it’s very good for the whales 🐳 who cares about your job it’s the whales 🐳 that matters

Across Canada really Alberta Saskatchewan they have ports The industry will be back and we are already feeling the pain across Canada in every industry . The feeling of impending doom come the fall when we could really feel the pain .

If people would vacation in their own countries and support their own economies, the impact would be much less. This may be the year for it.

Cruise's saw a total of around 3000 cases of covid 2/3's caused by one company not following protocols and the media destroyed the industry with hyped up BS. Hundreds of boats, millions of passengers and crew were fine and the whole world stands to lose revenue from its decline.

Not all of Canada. You’d be hard pressed to find a cruise ship setting sail in Saskatchewan.

No one gives any shots about a cruise ship industry. Why don’t you start doing actual news instead of garbage crap like this? Your a global joke I get more factual news outta my dogs behind than I do your station.
