have apologized after they came under fire for unwittingly taking their name from the Maori word for pubic hair.
Speaking to CNN, Aynur Karakoch, who owns the Huruhuru leather store in Wellington with her husband Ercan, apologized for any offense that the name had caused Maori people. She said they had chosen the name in a bid to "embrace" the Maori language and culture and had not known its dual meaning. She and her husband, who are originally from Turkey, have had to remove the store's Facebook page after being sent abusive messages, insults, and racist slurs, she said. The couple cannot afford to rename the store, she added.
This crap is getting way out of hand. Now if you use a word from another language it’s wrong! Come on people
Please, could you not re-post posts you have already, ya know, posted? This one has already been shown on your twitter feed and seeing as how much shows up on your feeds on a daily basis it is a hassle to scroll through in order to see others that I follow.
They can apologize until they are blue in thr face and I still won't be drinking that one.
Ridiculous. Other side of the bloody planet. Are we to comb every language and dialect in the world before naming anything
Suck it up you sorry asses!
'It's not their language.' Exactly who does someone ask if they want to use a word? Why are these people then speaking English, since, by their own admission, it isn't their language? People are taking cultural appropriation too far.
Who are they apologizing to?
huruhuru lmao
Maclean and Maclean Pubic Hair! Canadian Classic.
Did they say there was a Maori in my beer?
Wow .Every Canadian knows the Maori language and knew that !
Unbelievable what make the cut over at CTV, truly is amazing!!! 🙄
I... what?!
It would be appropriate if it was American beer.
Don't care
Did someone call the .. fuzz.. on them
to be fair...i really don't want to drink a brew named for public hair...instead of dark & stormy...dark & curly
Does he feel he's appropriating the English language by using it?
Here is what the headline should have read. 'Near extinct language is mis-translated by brewery'. Big fucking deal! Hahahaha
Why?
I’ll buy a 6 pack today. Somebody tell me where to pick one up. Why would anyone in Medicine Hat be motivated to buy a beer named after anything from the Maori culture? Not sure of the marketing prowess on this one in the first place. Must be tough to come up with a new name!
The Canadians have to be the most apologetic people on the this planet.
Racist? Then I believe the company must shut down as that is the rule of the day
Ffs
I hope someone has been sacked over this
😂 Should have done their research beforehand
Why not own it and keep it. Lots of people would drink a beer called Pubes
Hahahaha 😂😆😂😆😂😆
Wow things are getting hairy
Definitely a Pubic Relations cock up.
Ballsy move.
Conservatives can’t handle it anymore. They’re already crying in the comments.
Is this satire
thats nuts
FFS stop apologizing. Do what you have to. Social Justice Warriors are out of control.
They should apologize for making the beer
Yet another group caught by their huruhuru.
Did they actually make their argument in English? A little entitled if them to just use my language like that. I want reparations
Fucking snowflakes are so pathetic...
Why use a Maori word to brand your beer? Why not just name it in English: 'Pubic Hair Beer'.....'it won't Get Stuck In Your Teeth' Problem solved. NoPushback.
REALLY? This is getting bloody pathetic...accused of 'stealing a word'? I think the damn Maori people have bigger issues if they are bitching about a fucking word!! People just need to get the fuck over all the PC shit already!!!
If it was American beer it would have been accurate.
I apologize for being born on this stupid planet. Who runs the global offensive word checker?
🤨 Nothing wrong with that. Actually my hair is so curly that one could say that I wear my huruhuru on my head. huruhuru
What about Busch?
oh shut up
So long as it is not floating in the beer, who cares?
Why?
