There are large centres across Canada with no donation centre or even a mobile clinic. I live in a 100,000 pop urban centre and am told I can drive 1 hour and 45 minutes to a two day mobile clinic if I wish to donate. There are donors if you go to them.

Maybe they can finally allow bisexual and gay people to donate. There is no evidence that supports this exclusion now. Also there are no appointments to donate when we check in York region. canadianbloodservices. 2 roadblocks that need to be fixed.

You can't ask people to help yet endanger themselves. It doesn't make sense. You know the airplane safety drill ....put your own mask on before helping others...pretty basic stuff.

CanadasLifeline ordinarily I would respond to this call to help but not without mask mandates for all, 3-vax for staff. Can't risk my and my family's health.
Maybe they should require masks, and keep people safe.
Question for CanadasLifeline … How many people does one staff member interact with in a day? What is Canada’s statistical infection rate? Why can’t we get an accurate number? Oh right. Provinces have moved towards an endemic model and stopped recording it.

Sadly, CanadasLifeline has only themselves to blame for this shortage. Many donors do not feel safe in a semi-masked medical environment. If everyone wore N95s, I bet the 'shortage' would be corrected.

Do not keep appointments with Canadian blood services, take them to courts immediately and the government to courts over removal of mask mandates

I wear a mask, regardless, but I agree. I plan to keep my appointment but will feel much safer if everyone in the clinic wore masks. CanadasLifeline really needs to rethink that policy.

After more than 50 donations I paused mine when they didn't require Employees, Volunteers and Donors alike be fully vaccinated. For that, CBS blocked me on Twitter. Now that they've dropped the mask requirement, I won't be donating ever again. I'm far from the only one.

Blood services or whatever they are now After what they and every dr involved knowingly did & not one faced any charges or discipline over for the number of dead Canadians & Hep C victims like my sister whose liver could be compromised at any time & die I will never donate again.
I would love to donate & am O+, but the next clinic in my hometown isn’t for another month & is only open for a few hours in the middle of the work day, which isn’t convenient for those of us with jobs. If they need more blood, maybe they should make it easier for us to donate it
I keep donating blood but I can't even get a family doctor.
Where I grew up, there were blood mobiles that would visit high schools, universities, and work buildings. Instead of having to take time and transport to come to the clinic, the clinic came to the donors. Do they do this here? Perhaps they did and it was stopped due to COVID?

CanadasLifeline can easily reinstate universal masking at all their facilities and donors will come back in droves. There is an easy solution to this, they’re simply refusing to do it.
They should of kept covid regulations in place...distancing, masks and sanitizing...they would get a better turn out...
Mikeggibbs Removing masks at these clinics appears to have been made with intentions to deplete the blood supply on purpose. Many donors have stopped because of loss of protection. Is there a nefarious reason behind the decision? Can blood be bought now from somewhere? Is it privatization?
Maybe just maybe they should ohhhh i don’t know open more locations especially with you know gas prices. I’m not driving an hour away almost 100km to donate blood. Sorry not sorry
AQazaz if you want to wear a mask, wear a ask. Easy! We would donate, but they took the center out if our area. The closest one is 1.5 hrs away and it takes months to get an appt.

Just checked their donar clinics... not many with spots available in next few days. Most in late August, or into September or October.
People are dying, they need help. Your moral outrage is noted, however actively being negative and potentially discouraging donors negates your high ground.

I heard from a source that about 80% of the blood collected is sold to specialized companies(Pharma etc) for testing. So I will give if they pay me.

Urging people to keep appointments. If they were serious about protecting donor's health, perhaps donors would return. Asking donors to put their own health at risk because some don't want to wear a mask for an hour is ridiculous. With or without COVID, masks should be mandatory.
Probably has something to do with the backwards decision to allow homosexuals to give blood again. There's a sound scientific reason we didn't allow them to give blood in the past and it has nothing to do with 'bigotry' and more to do with spreading diseases.

Rumor has it those who are vaccinated (Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson&Johnson) can no longer donate to blood banks. This should be publicly addressed.
sucks to be them... if I got in an accident today and needed blood or a transplant, I get nothing, as they refuse to help the unvaxxed.. so I'm going to keep all my super rare blood right where it is

They pandered to the anti-maskers, who are a group unlikely to have donated anyway. And in doing so chased away their actual donors - who wear masks to protect others for the same reasons why they generally donate blood.
I just read this headline to my O- partner, who said they would go in and donate (as they did pre-pandemic) but not sure if it’s safe… I reminded them that masks are no longer mandatory. Yeah, not safe and not donating.
One guess is all you need to know who funds this service. If you answer Trudeau you'd be wrong. It's the guy that wants Covid forgotten and all masking gone so his economy and privatization plans can march forward.
Our closest donor clinic is over an hour's drive away. No one at Canadian Blood Services seems to think this is an obstacle to donating.
