Fielding questions about why Canada hasn’t already agreed to support lifting the World Trade Organization’s Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights agreement, as the U.S. announced on Wednesday, International Trade Minister Mary Ng said Canada would engage in these discussions.
“Simply, we need to eliminate all potential barriers to the timely access of affordable COVID-19 medical products, including vaccines and medicines, and scale up the manufacturing and supply of essential medical products. There is no question that normative intellectual property rights represent a significant potential barrier,” reads the letter issued Thursday.
“Our position is to discuss this with our allies, to discuss this with our WTO partners, and to make sure that we proceed in a way that is going to achieve the goals of ensuring the continued development of these vaccines,” she said on Thursday.
Again Canada is irrelevant. We don’t even make our own vaccine. Liberal arrogance again.
When I heard we were investing in the research last year I thought it was so that when found everyone everywhere gets it for free. It was not meant as a brown envelope for you guys, sorry
To be honest I thought this was the idea from the get. The vaccine should be free like air and fresh water
