The beleaguered governing body, under the microscope for its ongoing labour battle with the Olympic champion women and resurgent men's team, named Crooks its interim president on Wednesday. She faces a busy calendar and uncertain landscape

Former Olympian Charmaine Crooks has been entrusted with helping steer Canada Soccer back to calmer waters.

The women want the same backing and preparation ahead of their World Cup this summer as the men did before Qatar. She has been on the Canada Soccer board since 2013-14 and was elected vice-president in November 2020. She has served on several Canada Soccer committees, including the emergency, strategic planning and risk management committees. She served as Canada's head of delegation at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2014, the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Championship, and the 2020 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

With Crooks elevated to interim president, the Canada Soccer board named Kelly Brown as acting vice-president. Brown, executive vice-president at Arterra Wines Canada, was elected a Canada Soccer independent director in 2020.

Canada Soccer says interim funding agreement reached with women's national team players | CBC SportsCanada Soccer says terms of an interim agreement with the women's national team mirror a similar deal with the men's national team, including per-game incentives and results-based compensation. the interesting thing about this 'scandal' is that despite the coverage, they could have defunded the women's soccer team entirely, and everyone would have forgotten within a week Unless this team is bringing in as much money as the men, they don't really have a case for getting as much funding as the men. Nobody cares about womens soccer
