Clad in raincoats and rain boots, four daycare-aged children were laughing as they splashed in a puddle on McGill’s lower field on Monday morning. On Tuesday afternoon, that spot was used by a group of civil engineering students learning how to use transit measuring devices for land surveying.
McGill has tried to choke off the supplies coming onto the campus, but those camping out say they continue to receive many donations of food, batteries, water bottles and other supplies. Farrah said supplies continue to come in, and people asking if they can donate anything are turned away, as campers say they have all they need, for the moment.
There are no showers on site. Farrah said people are encouraged to return home to shower, and take time off from the protest in order to take care of their mental health.. On Monday, there was a poetry reading by candlelight, on Tuesday, a quilting activity was planned to create art showing support for the cause. There’s also a library, a free store and a table where donated Tim Hortons coffee containers and water bottles are available.
