The first major production number, Let’s Get Loud, sets the tone of the show and also introduces the 112 senior and junior members of The Young Canadians and guest star, Tony Award-nominee Forrest McClendon. Several times, McClendon comes to the front of the stage with the youngest members of the troupe. He’s such a big, confident performer and those youngsters beam when he takes their hands. It’s a great touch that deserves to be repeated several times.
Swing Latino also shows some acrobatic skill along with their dancing. There are moments when several of the women members are airborne when they change partners. It’s breathtaking to watch them and, wisely, Benson has them return during This Is It, the Calgary Stampede number composed by Dave Pierce. This time they are wearing costumes that combine their Latin heritage with Western wear.
