Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Carolyn Bennett responds to a question during Question Period in the House of Commons Tuesday, February 25, 2020 in Ottawa. The federal cabinet has approved an agreement that will see Canada pay nearly $240 million in compensation to the Mohawks of Akwesasne to settle a land claim.
The territory is known in the province as Dundee, but is recognized by local Indigenous residents by its traditional name of Tsikaristisere. In 1981, the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne filed a claim asking for the land to be returned, asserting that an alleged surrender of the land in 1888 was invalid because they never intended to surrender it.
In 2015, the federal government offered a global settlement of just under $240 million in compensation and offered to give the community the right to have up to 18,282 acres of land added to the Akwesasne reserve, if the First Nation buys parcels on the open market.
This will never end!
And again we see more taxpayers funding pandered to Quebec !
Natalia01Mateo This is getting absurd. It's past the point of time to get Trudeau out. Wtf is happening to Canada. You think this will be the end? Canada is held hostage to these idiot demands.
Teachers should change their strategy
Down the black hole
Another bill for us to pay / How many billions is that to date?
The Canadian gov’ts has been throwing money at the different FN bands for years. It’s no big thing, it’s no big epiphany that only the tolerant woke Justin Trudeau brained up. It’s just emboldened the protest.
Natalia01Mateo Again, 100% predictable, and watch - undoubtedly useless, resolving nothing, and spurring more groups to break the law thinking they too can use such illegal tactics to carve a massive chunk of the pie for themselves. Watch!
Sue73157747 Now tell me exactly where this money is coming from? I’ll wait TrudeauMustGo
Yes, this will definitely stop any future extortion of taxpayers, the same way we can frighten ants away from a picnic by throwing fistfuls of sugar at them.🐜🐜🐜🐜
So you commit terrorist acts like blockading a railway and your punishment is a $240 million gift from Canadian taxpayers. I supported liberals in the past but CanadianPM Carolyn_Bennett you have just lost the next election. This is a an embarrassment.
I guess the libs think rewarding criminals is the way forward, look for blockades across the country every time there is a disagreement

When do the Viking cousins get a piece of this action?
This is an industry that can’t be stopped in this country,
bgirl0001 Cabinet approves.... When will this agreement be brought before parliament for ratification? Remember Liberals, you are no longer in a majority. cdnpoli
Maybe I should misbehave and break the law to get paid off
Perhaps the real problem is how to stop reneging on contracts or treaties as there were many signed in the past and because Western civilization depends on development and transportation for stable supplies past treaties have been neglected due to economic circumstances. .......
now that's stealthy negotiating. WOW! After all it's only $$$. JustinTrudeau has unlimited funds available from the world bank. Next, UN controlling Trudeau's puppet strings. Why is this moron even there? Absolutely USELESS!
Give them all a one time cash offering to get them started and then close the doors on the Rez. Nothing from the settlers ever to enter again. No power, water, medicine. Nothing.
Does this mean an end to subsidies forever? No preferential treatment, no further kowtowing to demands for reparations? They'll get their own water treatment, and build their own housing? It's exhausting.
mohawksettlement Rewarding bad behaviours always pays dividends. Not!
Give it all away. Money for you and you and you. Come on down free Canadian dollars to anyone with a BS story.
