In 2015, the NDP won 44 seats, and 19.7 percent of the popular vote. They are projected to have won just 15 per cent of the popular vote this time

People’s Party of Canada leader Maxime Bernier was defeated in the Quebec riding of Beauce Monday night. Bernier won the Beauce riding for the Tories in the 2006, 2008, 2011 and 2015 elections before breaking with the party and launching his own right-wing party in September 2018. As leader, Bernier campaigned on cutting taxes, ending corporate subsidies, drastically cutting immigration and encouraging provinces to develop their natural resources.

Election 2019 marked the end of former Liberal MP Jane Philpott’s political career for now, as she ended up in third place behind the Liberal and Conservative candidates. Her riding, Markham-Stouffville was won by Liberal candidate Helena Jaczyk.Despite charting a last minute surge in the polls, the NDP managed to pick up just over 20 seats as of 11.30pm ET, losing quite a bit of ground from last time around.
