Have you voted in a mall before?

A Burnaby resident struggled to find the voting station at the Amazing Brentwood when she cast her ballot on the Oct. 1 advance voting day.

The city’s chief election officer, Lynne Axford, told the Burnaby NOW in an emailed statement that the mall provides a voting location to the city at no charge, as it has in past elections.“Due to mall policy, we are limited in the information we can hand out and display in the mall,” Axford wrote. “However, upon hearing concerns from a resident, we have discussed the matter with mall management, and they have agreed to allow limited additional signage and ensure information kiosk staff are providing directions and maps to anyone asking about the voting location.”

Axford said the city is working to improve access to the voting location at Brentwood for the two remaining advance voting days and general voting day on Oct. 15.The city posted a Twitter video tour of where to find the voting location at Brentwood. Burnaby residents: Are you planning a shopping trip at The Amazing Brentwood on Oct 5, 8 or 15 ? Stop by to vote! We are located in the Interior Centre – Level 1 near the Scotiabank. There’s free parking beside London Drugs.— City of Burnaby October 4, 2022 lvanderdeen@burnabynow.com
