Burnaby athletes excelled in multiple sports this past weekend at the 2024 BC Winter Games. Local teens brought back 33 medals — including 13 gold, 11 silver and nine bronze — from the biannual event that took place in Lhtako Quesnel Feb. 22 to 25. Broken down, 22 were hardware from individual competitions while the remaining 11 were won in team events (see list below). Burnaby judokas claimed the most local gold medals with five.

The others came in karate, speed skating, ringette, cross country skiing and badminton The 13 total golds were among 32 won by the Fraser River zone — the most of any other region competing at the games. Altogether, Fraser River, slipped 89 medals around the necks of its athletes, including 28 silver and 29 bronze, finishing two back of Vancouver-Coastal with 91. Burnaby was originally sending 51 athletes to the north central region, but "unfavourable snow conditions in the host community" forced three provincial sport organizations to withdraw from the game
