Entire board steps down at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre. Two board members will stay on temporarily in an administrative capacity during a transitional period in which Buddies will rebuild the board.

Buddies in Bad Times has lost its board of directors.

The company has now entered a transitional period in which it will rebuild its board, working with staff and an industry consultant, “prioritizing policies and culture that are informed by equitable, anti-racist and anti-oppressive frameworks,” said the statement. Mathew and Lawrence will stay on temporarily in an administrative role during this period of transition.

Latif said that the overall process of organizational review over the past 20 months has been disjointed. “It all feels like crisis management, managing one fire after another,” said Latif. Evalyn Parry was artistic director of Buddies from 2015 through September 2020, and resigned from the position partly in response to the complexities of leading the theatre through a time of profound societal and institutional reckoning. The current events are “a truly important and exciting moment, not only for Buddies, but for the whole theatre and arts and culture sector,” said Parry in a statement to the Star.
