Bruins forward Jake DeBrusk has been fined $5,000 by the NHL’s department of player safety for cross-checking Islanders defenceman Scott Mayfield.

Boston’s Jake DeBrusk has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Cross-checking NY Islanders’ Scott Mayfield.

The incident occurred at 13:04 of the third period of Boston’s Game 2 loss to the Islanders on Monday. The two were battling in front of the New York net when DeBrusk hit Mayfield with a cross-check in the back of the head. DeBrusk was not penalized on the play.breakaway goal. Game 3 goes Thursday night on Long Island.
