The Canada Revenue Agency headquarters in Ottawa is pictured on November 4, 2011. TORONTO -- Canadians who have grown tired of unsolicited emails and phone calls from scammers claiming they owe money to federal agencies will have their patience tested this tax season.is expecting to see a surge in these scams between March and April, when cybercriminals tend to prey on consumers who are more likely to fall for scams that ask for their personal informationduring tax season.
Jeff Thompson, a senior RCMP intelligence agent working for the CAFC, says that scams that mention the CRA are just the tip of the iceberg. But despite increased effort by Canadians authorities and government officials to crack down on these types of scams, including a large scale bust involving more than 40 illegal call centres in India last March, experts fear the market for fraud outpaces authoritative efforts.
Avner says some relief may come from more stringent requirements placed on telecom providers by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission , including call-blocking technology that prevents some “spoofed” numbers from reaching Canadians customers. “The scam is in the social context… the person gets on the phone and intimidates you, stresses you out, convinces you to do things you wouldn’t do,” he said.
THINK PEOPLE! We have legal procedures that are Implemented when government request money from you. A phone call asking for money is always a hoax and fraud. New Canadians and immigrates are the soft target for these shysters.
Excellent! I love wasting there time like they waste mine, it’s fun to scam them back
We just don't answer the phone unless we know the caller!
Just tell the callers to provide some information and tell them you will call them back. Then look up the real CRA number and call them directly.

Oh, I have fun with this kind of call! I adopt an addled little old lady persona and to keep them on the line as long as possible. Bitcoin? You don't want a whole coin? Apple cards? I like bananas. And the free trips. They hang up on me when I say no passport, felony conviction.
Again...I once got two of them the same day. I told the guy he had no morals..and he actually thanked me!
“Visa security “ just called ( before 7 am!)
