McLaughlin’s new two-way deal with the Bruins carries a $750,000 NHL cap hit.

McLaughlin arrived at Boston College in time for the 2018–19 season after spending two years with the USHL’s Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, with whom he had been team captain.

Over his four years at Boston College, McLaughlin developed from a depth producer as a freshman to being the team’s top goal-scorer in his senior year. He wore the “C” and was recognized as one of Hockey East’s best defensive forwards in his final two seasons with BC. McLaughlin appeared in two games with Team USA at the 2022 Winter Olympics men’s ice hockey tournament in Beijing. He did not record a point as the Americans skated to a fifth-place finish.

After joining the Bruins late in the 2021–22 season, McLaughlin scored three goals in his first 11 NHL games. He remains in search of his first NHL assist with 13 games now under his belt. The Bruins still have five restricted free agents left to sign this summer: forward Trent Frederic, defensemen Alec Regula and Reilly Walsh, and goaltenders Jeremy Swayman and Michael DiPietro.
