Pandemic-imposed travel restrictions caused the provincial park system to play host to a record number of visitors

. This year looks to be even busier, with booking numbers already surpassing where they were at this time last year. Increased demand is making it harder than ever to book a site, but it is possible that the difficulty is being exacerbated by people taking advantage of a loophole in the booking system that allows them to overbook by a number of days and then cancel some. The good news is that if people are exploiting that loophole, there is still hope for people such as Mr. Bagga.

“Sometimes parks would have less mid-week visitation. We’re just seeing that we’re full most of the time,” Ms. McMorrow said.Story continues below advertisement “We’re cautioning people not to do it. If we find out they’re doing it, we won’t even rent them a canoe,” said Ted East, owner of Killarney Outfitters.

Ontario Parks tries to combat the practice by charging cancellation fees of up to 50 per cent of the total campsite fees charged at registration, depending on when cancellations are made.

Life quality, the environment and accessibility has never been greater with never ending population growth !

Same in Alberta. And Kenney Govt wants to close parks and mine for coal in the Rocky Mountains.

Does anyone know if the number of provincial campsites has kept pace with population growth?

It has always been a problem and camp grounds are at or over capacity... we need more parks.

BC fixed that overbooking loophole by allowing you to book only 2 months in advance, but as usual, the Ontario gov't is completely incompetent and just puts its head into the sand when it comes to dealing with these issues.

Wow- my dad ate tulip bulbs and picked potatoes from mine fields in Holland during the occupation. We can’t seem to get camping sites at will. If only we could see the bigger picture while too many are “camping out” in ICUs.

we were frustrated with KillarneyPP site because each time you were ready to confirm, the site crashed, and you were told to come back the next day. So we booked at other parks. Their loss, not ours.
