West Shore RCMP said the 31-year-old driver lost control about 7:40 p.m. and hit a Hyundai Elantra, before crashing into a concrete median.

One of the drivers involved in a two-vehicle collision Sunday night on the Trans-Canada Highway near Leigh Road was travelling up to 200 kilometres per hour in a 90 km/h zone.

West Shore RCMP said the 31-year-old driver was in a BMW when it lost control about 7:40 p.m. and hit a Hyundai Elantra, before sliding approximately 450 metres and crashing into a concrete median. Both vehicles were badly damaged and the Elantra’s passengers were taken to hospital by ambulance to be assessed, police said.

“Remarkably there were no life-threatening injuries reported by either party,” said Cpl. Nancy Saggar. The BMW driver was charged with excessive speeding — going more than 40 km/h over the speed limit — which meant a $368 fine and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

Are you kidding me? Why was/is no dangerous driving charge under the Criminal Code? Can the Westshore RCMP explain this? Brutal.

How does that not merit losing one's license? 110km over the limit?
