Blue Jays reliever Rafael Dolis is expected to miss at least one week of action after having his appendix removed.

Fortunately, the 32-year-old underwent surgery before his appendix ruptured. He will not perform any activity for a week as he heals post-surgery, at which point Toronto will re-evaluate his status.

Dolis, who signed a one-year deal with Toronto in January, has some big-league experience – he made 40 appearances with the Chicago Cubs from 2011-13 – but has spent his last four seasons with Japan’s Hanshin Tigers. By his second season with the Tigers, Dolis emerged as the club’s closer with 37 saves, 12.1 strikeouts per nine innings and a 2.71 ERA. His 2019 numbers were less stellar, but he was still effective with 19 saves, 8.2 strikeouts per nine innings and a 2.51 ERA.
