Toronto took a step back after enjoying a strong night in Tuesday's 9-5 victory over Washington, following up with a one-sided 8-2 loss to the Nationals on Wednesday. With that loss the Blue Jays dipped to 4-4 on home turf so far this season, and they take a middling 11-12 overall record into Friday night's matchup at TD Ballpark.
Despite Wednesday's disappointment it has been a good week for the Blue Jays. In addition to seeing George Springer finally make his debut, the club's moribund offence has shown signs of coming to life. Youngsters Cavan Biggio and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. both turned in multiple multi-hit outings, highlighted by Guerrero's record-setting three-home run, seven-RBI performance in the team's 9-5 victory over Washington on Tuesday night.
Overall, the Blue Jays have averaged a respectable 4.5 runs per game during their current 4-2 run. That marks a dramatic turnaround after being limited to two or fewer runs in six of their previous 12 contests. The team has also been steady in recent home dates at TD Ballpark, winning four of six while outscoring opponents by a wide 39-23 margin.
However, the Blue Jays have produced mixed results in interleague play in recent seasons. The team showed some modest improvement last season after going 3-17 against National League opponents back in 2019, finishing the campaign with a 10-10 interleague record including a 6-4 home mark.
