Where: Little Mountain Gallery, 195 E. 26When you think about it, moms are the perfect candidates to become improv comics. Child rearing requires the kind of quick-thinking, instant action response to an audience that translates well to the stage. And there is no shortage of subject matter to work with.
Classes are designed to cater to specific needs of people who identify as moms, and “may include more relaxed attendance/lateness policy” and other adjustments than the regular curriculum. Participants in the professional training programs are asked to repeat a term if they miss more than two classes. Improv for Moms is not that hardcore as it’s main focus is to introduce moms to improv comedy and explore celebrating their unique stories.
“What is the improv that comes from women who are moms now?” she said. “There has only been one showcase by a group so far and it was funny, supportive, silly and at times a bit dark, which I really liked. This is really an exciting time for comedy in Vancouver and Blind Tiger is pumped to be bringing more diverse people into doing what we love to do.”
“We started with four classes and now, five years later, we just hired our GM,” she said. “So it’s going really well and just keeps getting better. Most of improv is just you on stage and, with moms, they kind of have this superpower — they created life — that makes them more interesting than me.”
