Black people ‘disproportionately’ arrested, charged, subjected to use of force by Toronto police: report

In a report released this morning, the commission finds that Black people are more likely to be “arrested, charged, over-charged, struck, shot or killed by Toronto police.” It found that despite the fact Black people represent only about 8.8 per cent of the city’s population, they represented almost a third of all charges in the data.

May they were dis maybe disproportionately involved in crime

I just like to see a report that breakdown who is carrying a gun when a crime is reported by police before we start blaming anyone and then let’s talk

Totally biased and slanted story. Provide the entire report with all the statistics. Yes, you will appear to be racist - but the facts matter. Should we also blame the cops and politicians for the the violent perpetrators killing each other over drug/gun territory?

Lot of chicken & egg issues when it comes to policing stats. Do police patrol proportionately to the areas which get the most calls for service? Because if they are, the arrest numbers will reflect the makeup of those areas, but then creates arrest 'fishing holes'

They also have disproportionate interactions with the police. More interactions with the police = more chance to get arrested. This is such a stupid article.

It is only disproportionate if the crime rate among said people doesn’t match.

When any demographic commits a disproportionate amount of crime, there will be a corresponding increase in interactions with police. This is a societal issue, not a policing one.

What about Indian people? Chinese people? Jews? Latinos? Arabs? Filipinos? If it’s white racism, should all non-whites be disproportionately targeted? Or is there more to the story than this BS sloppy cherry picked narrative advancement exercise?

It would be interesting to see these arrest numbers for people with college degrees broken down by ethnicity. I’m guessing it would be less disproportionate proving this is more related to socioeconomic class rather than skin pigmentation.

Any stats on the proportion by race of types of violent crimes? That sure would help put an objective lens on this obviously selective measure of arrest results.

If you commit the majority of the crime of course you're going to be involved with police more. Maybe stop committing crime & making excuses for the poor actions. What's BLM Toronto doing about growing gun violence? Oh right nothing.
