New spin-off of History Network reality series also filmed in Labrador

Juan Pablo Quiñonez was the winner of season nine of Alone, a survival-based show that filmed the season in Labrador. Photo courtesy of the History Channel - ContributedIt took Juan Pablo Quiñonez about two weeks to feel like himself again after spending 78 days by himself living off the land on the Labrador coast.

“It's very challenging because your terrain is limited, you're only limited to 10 items and the timing of the season is the first day of fall, so everything is there to make it a challenging situation. We also have no idea where we're being dropped.” He plans to use the prize money to buy land and build a homestead community where he can start a family. He’s also recently released a book, “Thrive: Long-Term Wilderness Survival Guide; Skills, Tips, and Gear for Living on the Land,” which combines modern survival skills with bushcraft techniques, step-by-step instructions, and over 400 illustrations.

This show will see past contestants come back to try to last 50 days in the Labrador winter, with anyone left standing sharing a $500,000 prize Pender said in “Alone: Frozen,” viewers will have a chance to get to know more about the contestants and what drives them.
