U.S. President Joe Biden vowed to work with Canada in relation to his 'Buy American' policy, which would tighten existing rules on government procurement by guaranteeing contracts to U.S. companies, during his call with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last week.

EDMONTON -- U.S. President Joe Biden vowed to work with Canada in relation to his “Buy American” policy, which would tighten existing rules on government procurement by guaranteeing contracts to U.S. companies, during his call with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last week.

"We voiced our concerns with respect to that, because we have a very good trade deal with them, very integrated supply chains, and that this could possibly have some effects on Canada," Garneau told CTV's Question Period Sunday. “Our objective is to make sure that our neighbours to the south understand how tightly integrated our economies are,” Garneau replied when asked whether Canada can expect an exemption from the plan, expected to be unveiled Monday.

During the call, Biden’s first to a foreign leader as president, Trudeau expressed Canada's "disappointment" with the decision to cancel the Keystone XL pipeline by revoking its permit.

Figures.... we are your good neighbours you know... he forgot already

So we should stay away from Florida? Okey doke.

So tell me what the difference is between Biden and Ford? Ford has been promoting by Ontario for a years. Fair is fair. Sorry.

Blah blah blah means nothing.

THEN REINSTATED the pipeline

The US will be facing a real oil shortage soon.

Empty promises. Canada without strong leader and vision will be a little bastard stacked between USA - China - Europe

All he has to do is say Americans can buy products manufactured in Canada from companies owned by American companies. That will cover about 90 percent. 🤪

What if he promises to fill his car tank all the time with Alberta oil, will that satisfy Canadians?

Piling it higher and deeper daily

Would they rather us buy our own products or tariff their aluminum? Democrats are and always will be the party of unions and manufacturers. This isn't going to harm other countries on a wide scale like tariffs.

All those telling Alberta to move on will be squealing like pigs if God forbid the manufacturers of Ontario and Quebec are impacted.

More bafflegab. This means nothing. Trudeau buys more magic beans and wishes away Canadian pipelines and jobs. Get real.

How exactly does 'Buy American' Help Canada?

That sounds Trumpesque.

He is looking out for the interests of American people first, that is the step in the right direction. I would like to see how our government would respond to that.

Canada Where is this city again ? 😄😄😁

JustinTrudeau we need to let him know that it isn’t just Canada here ..... he is actively cutting off our economy some of which goes to England for the queen 👑 ..... I hope this guy learns a lesson about playing with Canada’s relations

Thanks Dad.

Biden is here..........

Don't worry many companies will be rushing to CANADA from USA due to Corporate Tax!.

Sounds nice but do not be fooled or lulled into a scene of any security. They will still only do what is best for them. We MUST be strong and strengthen our Canadian economy and buy and invest Canadian policies

Bye bye florida.

Not to worry Trudeau will do anything you say . Just tell him how it is and he will cave ,matter of fact he will probably pay double just because it's only taxpayer's money.

Hey Biden.....🖕

Maybe we should become American

🤢

What exactly does that mean? They will listen, but not really give a shit.

One thing Canadians have learned over the last 4 years is that Americans can only be trusted to give Canada a hard time and so far Biden is no different.

Who shocked here? All these Canadians who thought that the USA under Biden was going to be good for us, were morons. Everywhere is hurting because of Covid, they are going to worry about how they help themselves, Trudeau is lone idiot in failing to realize that..

I find it hilarious that those who got triggered by the slogan, make America great again don’t have a problem with the slogan Buy American. They mean exactly the same thing.

I wonder if all those telling telling Albertans just to move on after keystone will have the same mindset once this buy American initiative starts to impact the manufacturing sectors in eastern Canada?

What about American buying Canadian oil ? They rather buy from Iran now ?

Is there ever a guarantee with politicians

No kidding he just canceled Keystone costing Canadian provinces 30 BILLION in TRANSFERS for hospitals and schools - he’s as protectionist as Trump

Enabling TrudeauIncompetencePM

Of coarse no guarantees because it will not happen We are in trouble as Canadian in dealing with the USA they own us like never before what did we sign in new NAFTA deal we have no idea do we there is a lot we do not know and new the vaccines Where are they

we can offer 'Buy Canada' policy

Lol. Canada will not benefit from American protectionism.

Life doesn’t come with guarantees.

Why would he offer a guarantee? CTV is becoming terrible journalism.

Whether or not you support KeystoneXL, it set a scary precedent. You have to see the writing on the wall with Buy American. Dems are historically more isolationist than Reps. Biden will side with Trudeau on all the symbolic stuff, and fight Canada on economically vital issues.

He talks out of both sides of his mouth.

Perhaps its time to stop the USA from shipping coal through BC ports thats so dirty it cant be shipped from USA ports. Joe should have no issue with us stopping millions of tons of that dirty polluting crap. Got Balls JustinTrudeau ? OOPS, Justin likes BC, never going to happen

The sky is falling. New President does not “guarantee” protection for jobs in a foreign country at the expense of domestic jobs. He does get on the phone with JustinTrudeau as a priority.

Yup Justin Trudeau will just bend over.

Yeah destroy everything Canadian and have Canadians Buy American as well its what Trump started

It should be buy North American. Then maybe we could all survive. Protectionism only works if the other side doesn't need you for anything. I think we've proven both countries rely on the other for goods and services.

Why can’t ‘buy American’ be interpreted as ‘buy north American’

Biden, too, follows Trump’s America first policies! Initially with less vitriol. Canadian manufactures and exporters need to brace for an economic downturn as the USA economy will turn inward. Nothing good in the pipeline for Canada’s dependance upon the great maw to the South.

We should support local and buy Canadian when ever possible. Stores should put a maple leaf on shelves under Canadian made products.

Looks like Canada isn't invited to the massive infastructure party over the next ten years. 1st keystone now snc lavalin. You might remember them from earlier scandals.

The years are gone from days of NAFTA where we all worked together to support the auto industry. 😭

Can we just get rid of Trudeau and the mass incompetence that our own country is dealing with? I mean, if you listen to RosieBarton you would think we all love the guy who goes through scandal after scandal, lie after lie, etc What a joke.

POTUS should think back and remember the role Canada played in assisting their country during the 9/11 attack... playing games with us now could hurt that relationship and maybe we won't be there the next time if he wants to take an America First attitude!

👍

So in plain English....what’s in the best interest of the American people comes first...but we’ll work with ya where possible.

Awwwwwww how nice

Canada has no backbone just steam roll over us

These guys make lying look so easy. Only the naive MSM or corrupt MSM believe them.

Bullcookies he is

Better to be
