Toronto Blue Jays' Bo Bichette bats against the New York Yankees during the first inning of their American League MLB baseball game in Toronto Thursday August 8, 2019. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Fred ThornhillTORONTO -- Coming into Thursday's game with a franchise-record 10-game hitting streak to start his career, Toronto Blue Jays rookie Bo Bichette put on quite the show in his first game at home.

"I think I expected to come in here and play well," Bichette said. "I'm hot right now. I'm putting up numbers and seeing the ball really well." With playoff hopes for 2019 all but dashed, the draw for Toronto is the future. Performances like Bichette's provide some hope. Thomas Pannone struggled in his very first start at home this season. The Blue Jays pitcher gave up seven runs on six hits, two home runs and struck out one batter.

Didi Gregorious hit a single on the next at-bat, which prompted Toronto to warm up the bullpen. Cameron Maybin drove in Gregorious with an RBI-single which made it 6-0 Yankees -- which spelled the end of Pannone's night. The homer extended Bichette's hitting streak to start his MLB career at 11, a franchise record. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit an RBI single which cut New York's lead to 8-4.

The time is now for Blue Jays and fans to change the conversation - Sportsnet.caIt's time for the tired, poisoned discourse around the BlueJays to change, for everyone's sake, as it's largely focused on all the wrong things.
