The Whitecaps will be doing plenty of TV watching Sunday as they look toward what their final weekend of the regular season might mean.

The Timbers host former Whitecap Max Crepeau and LAFC on Sunday, and the visitors can clinch the Supporters Shield for the league’s best record with a win. Seattle, winless in two, visits 12th place Sporting Kansas City later that afternoon.

But as Sartini pointed out, they’re still favoured in next week’s game. The Whitecaps haven’t won on the road since June 18, when they beat FC Dallas 2-0, going 0-3-4 since then. Austin FC midfielder Hector Jimenez challenges Vancouver Whitecaps FC forward Brian White during the first half at B.C. Place.Lucas Cavallini subbed into Saturday’s game in the 59th minute, his first action for Vancouver after serving his four-game suspension stemming from an inexcusable foul in the Nashville game. Two minutes after that, he turned in Ryan Gauld’s cross from six yards out to make the score 2-0 with his team-leading ninth goal of the year.

“He was fantastic. He did very well. And then since it’s not a game without a yellow card for Lucas Cavallini, he got a yellow card too,” Sartini said, chuckling. And on Saturday, Sartini did something else he’d eschewed during his previous history — starting the same 11 for the second game in a row.Article contentFor Sartini, the reason was the team is finally playing like they practice.

“Vancouver, we’re always an underdog team. But you know, it’s sometimes it’s good to be an underdog because all the teams are going to take you lightly.
