Trudeau DOES NOT budge on where he’s headed with Alberta. Then Smith puts out a long statement about the brief meeting and the statement is harsh, real harsh.
At the photo opportunity before the meeting, with cameras clicking, Smith starts off by telling us, in front of Trudeau, how there are serious issues to be discussed.Article contentPrime Minister Justin Trudeau, right, meets with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith in Calgary on Friday, July 7, 2023.The premier says there are “several concerning issues” needing to be dealt with before Alberta and Trudeau’s Ottawa can agree on a plan to reduce emissions.
Smith tells us Trudeau, in the coming weeks, will roll out his so-called clean electricity regulations for public discussion. In the regulations, there is no more extra time given for Alberta to get to a carbon-neutral power grid since Alberta relies on natural gas-fired electricity. The premier says Alberta has the non-negotiable “sovereign and exclusive constitutional jurisdiction” when it comes to regulating energy and electricity in the province.
“Our province will have no choice but to use alternative policy options to protect our rights independent of federal interference.”
