Volunteers cook and package up food at the Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib for the people stranded in Hope, B.C., November 17, 2021.
Volunteers cooked them hot meals, while other members brought blankets, socks, and gloves to seniors in Spences Bridge over fears the power might go out.Advertisement“We do an assessment of need before we go,” said Singh, “It does no good showing up with food if they need something else. And in Abbotsford they told us they needed pillows so that is what we brought.”
Emergency Management B.C. advises residents who want to send supplies and goods to shelters to check before they send them because they might not be set up to take in donations. The agency recommends donating money to a charity that is involved with helping the flood survivors such as United Way or the Red Cross.
The Red Cross said money raised will allow staff to carry out relief, recovery, resiliency, and risk reduction activities at the individual and community levels.
