The B.C. government is asking the court if the province has jurisdiction to regulate the transport of oil through its territory and to restrict bitumen shipments from Alberta.

Harriet Prince, 76, of the Anishinaabe tribe marches with Coast Salish Water Protectors and others against the expansion of the Trans Mountain pipeline.British Columbia’s Court of Appeal will consider a key question regarding provincial powers in the political battle over the future of the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project during a five-day hearing that starts Monday.

Alberta Premier Rachel Notley and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have said only Ottawa, not the provinces, has the authority to decide what goes in trans-boundary pipelines. Last summer, the Federal Appeal Court overturned approval of the project to triple oil shipments from Edmonton to Burnaby, B.C., ruling that the National Energy Board had not properly considered its impact on marine life nor had Ottawa meaningfully consulted with Indigenous groups.

Results will be instructive- There is a great deal of confusion generally re: jurisdiction. BC position on TMX while supporting LNG project seems on its face to be logically inconsistent, esp. when paired with prov. approval of increased passenger ferry traffic- perplexing...

Never ending rabbit hole, just build it.

These people are morons. Oil and gas is a global market and there is no such thing as Canadian oil and gas being used in Canada instead of evil Muslim oil and gas...unless they want to nationalize it. Ironic to say the least from mostly rightwing nutjobs.

If BC is so convinced they can live without it let them back it up Shut off the flow of oil and all its byproducts

Appeal Court to hear Saskatchewan's case for funding non-Catholic studentsSaskatchewan's Appeal Court is to start hearing arguments today about whether mistakes were made by a judge who ruled the province can't fund non-Catholic students attending Catholic schools. Here’s an idea... no public money to any theocratic institutions ever. Close them all down if they can’t run themselves. How about you just just every kid equally regardless of what type of school it is? “without the requirement of a baptismal certificate or religious test.” - what if the student just gave a catholic priest a hand job? Would that work?
