Avril Lavigne, Stephen Poloz and Beverley Jean Johnston of Uxbridge have been appointed to the Order of Canada.
Lavigne is being recognized as one of the bestselling female artists of all-time with more than 50-million albums sold worldwide.Johnston is a percussionist and now teaches in the faculty of music at the University of Toronto. Her achievements as a musical innovator have brought classical and contemporary percussion to concert halls and venues worldwide.
“The Order of Canada recognizes individuals who have made positive and lasting impacts on communities here in Canada or who have brought honour to our country abroad,” said Governor General Mary Simon in a released statement. “As we progress towards an Order that is reflective of Canada’s full diversity, I encourage all Canadians to nominate individuals who inspire them, from all walks of life and backgrounds.
